Mr. Peterson:
One year ago we were looking for an activity that all our kids could be involved with when we decided on a membership with Chosun Academy. Our expectations were high as we had just gotten off a season of our children not really having fun with the activities they had previously chosen. The first thing we noticed was that the kids actually came out of sessions smiling and saying that they had fun. The second thing we noticed is that although the environment was friendly, behavioral expectations were much higher and that ALL the kids were meeting them, not just some. As we began to observe classes, it became apparent that TKD was not as much about self defense as it is about building confidence from within--building a belief that you can do something you previously thought you couldn't do. We have seen our three children develop their minds, bodies and spirits in the last several months that we had not thought possible. Regardless of age (we have 8, 11, 14 year old kids) it has been a positive experience for both our children and a joy for us to watch them grow.Sincerely,?

I AM WRITING THIS LETTER TO EXPRESS OUR FAMILY'S APPRECIATION FOR ALL THAT YOUR CLASSES HAVE DONE FOR OUR SON SPENSER.??BEFORE WE SIGNED UP FOR TAEKWONDO I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. I SAW THE SIGN AND THOUGHT MAYBE HE WOULD ENJOY THIS.I REALLY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT MARTIAL ARTS! SPENSER WAS REALLY EXCITED. SPENSER WAS ALWAYS A GOOD KID,BUT I CAN'T BEGIN TO EXPLAIN HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THIS POSITIVE EXPERIENCE HAS HELPED HIM. HE WAS ALWAYS A VERY SHY BOY AND ALWAYS JUST SAT BACK AND WATCHED AS OTHER KIDS PLAYED,HE NEVER REALLY GOT INVOLVED UNLESS HE WAS ASKED BY THE OTHERS.NOW HIS SHYNESS ,CONFIDENCE AND OVERALL SELF-ESTEEM ARE BETTER THEN EVER. HE IS ALSO SO RESPECTFUL.I LOVE THE DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT THAT YOU EMPHASIZE, KIDS REALLY NEED THAT THESE DAYS!!! YOU SEEM TO TOUCH A LOT OF SUBJECTS FROM STRANGERS TO MANNERS AND LISTENING TO MOM AND DAD. I JUST REALLY THINK IT'S GREAT.??HE HAS MADE MANY NEW FRIENDS THAT HE REALLY VALUES AND I ALSO HAVE MET SOME GREAT PARENTS. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN GREAT FOR ALL OF US.??SO IN SHORT, I JUST REALLY WANT TO SAY THANK-YOU FOR BEING SO GREAT WITH KIDS.IT TAKES A LOT OF PATIENCE TO TEACH KIDS WHAT YOU ARE TEACHING THEM AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE HOW YOU DO IT. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ,I CAN TELL YOU REALLY ENJOY IT.THANKS AGAIN!!?SINCERELY,

Dear Mr. Peterson:

As parents of a teen-age daughter, we are highly impressed with the level of empowerment our daughter has gained through her Tae Kwon Do training at Chosun Academy. Not only physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. It is comforting to know that she has the ability to defend herself on all of those levels. However, we feel the greatest gift she has received is that of the sense of "family" at Chosun. You care for her, as well as about her. She leaves each class with a definite sense of well being and belonging.

The spirit you have created at Chosun is definitely one of self-improvement. Self improvement through encouragement, challenge, and commitment. All along the way the fact that each improvement is recognized, and celebrated is truly appreciated! These are wonderful skills, and lessons that our daughter will have for life. We cannot say enough about your program.

Thank you!

I started practicing TKD in Sept. 2000 in a school in Beloit, Wis. My initial reason for beginning was for the exercise. Becoming a Black Belt was the furthest from my mind. Soon I realized that the exercise was a secondary reason for coming to class. I truly loved to come to train. I’ve met many people that I’m proud to call friends. I always had a fear of tests and that carried over into TKD. Through a lot of hard work and encouragement from my friends and instructors, I’ve learned to overcome that fear. Today I’m a Black Belt 1st Don. Martial Arts have been a God sent gift for me. It’s also a great way for families to spend time together. It’s wonderful to have something the whole family has in common.

I’ve trained at Chosun Academy since they first opened and I am proud to be a part of this school. Mr. & Mrs. Peterson are great instructors for kids and adults of all ages and abilities. They truly have a passion for the art and teaching it in a traditional school. Students here not only learn the physical part of TKD but the emotional and mental parts as well. At the end of every class students recite the Tenets of Tae Kwon Do. They are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit. These are qualities that are strived for by every member of Chosun Academy. I would encourage anybody thinking about starting in Martial Arts to train here.

Sincerely,

We joined the Chosun Academy about one year ago with the hopes that our?twin sons, age 4 when started, would enjoy the program and acquire new?skills, discipline from the teaching, and increased confidence. In the?beginning, we spoke with Mr. Peterson and discussed our concerns as well?as our goals. Tyler is very energetic and is constantly on the move.?Alec has been quite quiet and shy. We wanted the program to help Tyler?become more focused with the discipline and to open Alec up more by?increasing his confidence. ??When we first started looking for a martial arts program, we looked at?several locations closer to our home. The Chosun Academy was the academy
that best met our needs even though the class is not near our home. We are able?to stay at the academy and watch the progress of our children and with?multiple children; we were able to obtain a discounted price (family program), which madethe program more affordable. Our sons also felt very comfortable with?Mr. Peterson. We felt was important to their success in the?program and also made us feel comfortable too.??As Alec and Tyler began to learn new skills, we were not sure if they?could keep up and felt maybe we should not have signed up. Then we?started to see the boys improve their balance, focus, and ability to do?the moves. They began to really look forward to class and meet the?challenges of the training. The class motivates them to push themselves?and when they achieve their goals, they are very excited and proud of?what they learned. The boys learn more than just martial arts skills; they?learn discipline, respect, and teamwork. Tyler has become more focused?and Alec, once very shy, has really opened up and challenges himself?more than ever. Alec and Tyler practice at home and continually look?forward to the next belt level. They both have earned trophies that?are proudly displayed in their room along with their belts. The?competition in the class pushes them to try harder to succeed. Another great
benefit of the Chosun Academy is that we experience the belt ceremony. The
ceremony brings everyone together and teaches the children that this is a proud?moment. The gatherings of all families and new friends are made.??We are very pleased with Chosun Academy and look forward to watching our?sons grow in their martial arts ability and gain further confidence in?their new skills. We recommend this for all children as an important?teaching in their lives.

Sincerely,

I actually got started with Tae Kwon Do because of my Son. We were looking for things for him to do other than sitting at home in front of the video games. We found the introductory program for Chosun through the local Park and Recreation Department.
We all, including my wife agreed that we would give it a try. Our Son had had some problems with organized sports in the past, so we weren’t sure what to expect.
We headed off for the first class. When we arrived at the school, I was surprised to see how many children were there. After about the first 20 minutes, I could see that Mr. Peterson, the instructor, was an excellent teacher. He was patient and he didn’t even raise his voice when the children started to get a little over excited.
After seeing how the classes were run and the impressive teaching skills, I decided that I was going to give this a try. I figured that I would get a good work out, get back in shape and have something with which to bond with my Son. Little did I realize what else I would be gaining.
I attended the first Adult class a little tentatively but, I found the rest of the students very friendly and made me feel very welcome. Over the past few months the friendships have grown to be more like a family rather than just students paying a teacher for instruction.
In the past I have paid for gym memberships and I have never had this sort of a feeling from working with weights or running on the treadmill. I like the fact that there is a lot of physical work involved but, it doesn’t stop there. You also end up having to use your mind and spirit. I think the best thing about Tae Kwon do is: You have a support group when you need some help but, they double as an audience when you do something good. I am still amazed at the improvement that I have witnessed in both myself and my Son. I would highly recommend Tae Kwon Do to any person that is looking to improve themselves in any way. It is not only good exercise. It gives you a good sense of motivation, discipline and direction. Not only for Tae Kwon Do but, Life itself.

Mr. Peterson:

As our son enters into his second year with Chosun Black Belt Academy we felt that is was time for us to tell you how much Tae Kwon Do has changed our lives. You impressed us from day one with how much these students mean to you. By the second class you knew Tyler’s name and encouraged him to participate. You and your wife are so GREAT with children!

Tyler has always had the desire to learn martial arts. As parents, we were reluctant; concerned that it would encourage him to use Martial Arts in a negative way. Shows like Power Rangers and movies featuring Jackie Chan seemed to encourage him to act out. It wasn’t until I read your advertisement for the Greenfield Parks and Recreation that I saw the benefits of your program.

The first thing that caught our attention was “self-control”. Though Tyler does not meet the definition of ADHD, he has a hard time sitting still and maintaining a fair level of self-control. My husband and I felt that this might be a good introduction to martial arts. We were also curious to see how it could impact his life.

Wow! After a few short weeks everyone could see the difference in Tyler’s behavior at home and school. It gave him an air of confidence to be successful in every arena. Martial Arts has reinforced Tyler’s good manners to the point where holding the door is no longer a chore; it is a way of life. We are so proud of him.

It means so much to see him so excited and feeling so great about Tae Kwon Do. This has been the first activity that has captivated him as a passion. Not once has Tyler ever complained about going. In fact, the opposite is true; he begs to go. As a member of the Black Belt Club, he takes every opportunity to go to class.

If I had to choose a highlight, it would have to be last week when Tyler achieved the rank of Blue Belt. It was truly his best testing to date! I think that Cal and I were as excited as Tyler about his testing. Tae Kwon do has proven to Tyler that there are positive results to studying and working hard at everything he does.

Sincerely,

Mr. & Mrs. Rabideaux (Parents of Tyler Graf)
